Education, training, and outreach are an important part of the mission of the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. We are dedicated to fostering an understanding in the general public of the direct connections that exist between biomedical research and human health, and to encouraging motivated individuals to pursue science or science-related professions. Over the last decade, we have prepared hundreds of pre- and postdoctoral researchers for successful scientific careers.
Educational programs and initiatives at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research include:
The Graduate School of the Stowers Institute for Medical Research provides a rigorous research program that emphasizes highly critical thinking in combination with in-depth experience in the latest methodologies. The Institute also offers Ph.D. training through the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program (IGPBS) at University of Kansas Medical Center and the Open University.
Intense collaboration between Stowers investigators and postdoctoral researchers provides an unparalleled experience and opportunity to gain the skills and credentials they need to launch independent research careers.
The Stowers Summer Scholars Program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to become immersed in a research topic for a full-time ten-week period and experience firsthand the intellectual and collaborative spirit of research. Hands-on research for undergraduate students currently pursuing a degree in the biological and physical sciences are available during the academic year.
