Associate Scientist - LASF

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research currently has an opening for an Associate Scientist in the LASF to support services provided by the Importation Facility. Please note this job will require full wet showers every day.  It will also require occasional weekends, holidays, and overtime. Candidates must be willing to acquire ABSL2 and VHP clearance.

Responsibilities for the position include housing of new animals; husbandry of all mice; housekeeping of entire Importation Facility including quarterly sanitation testing; and the ability to work an autoclave and VHP. Breeding responsibilities will include superovulation for embryo production; collection of embryos; embryo transfer surgeries and procedures; use of foster moms; cesareans; post-surgical animal monitoring and care; weaning litters; and associated records management.  The candidate will also be responsible for collection of tissues for animal health and genetic testing.  Candidates will work with labs to transfer tissues required for analysis or for DNA testing to include DNA extraction.  Individuals in this position will work in ABSL2 room and perform additional work in LASF barrier/conventional areas as requested.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent self-motivation, the ability to work independently, critical thinking skills, be detail oriented, and demonstrate excellent communication with other LASF staff members and Lab staff.

Minimum requirements include an undergraduate degree in biology, or a related field; a general knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, and associated laboratory techniques; experience in handling small animals; and a minimum of two years of experience and demonstrated proficiency in technical procedures associated with the care and use of mouse mutant animal models. AALAS certification at the LAT level or higher would be preferred.
