The Screening facility has an opening for a part-time Laboratory Assistant to perform molecular biology tasks, assist team members during large-scale library productions using robotic equipment, and to perform general laboratory maintenance.
Responsibilities include: autoclaving, stocking consumables and cleaning/organizing the laboratory; performing molecular biology tasks to include DNA plasmid preps (mini, midi, and maxi), PCR of plasmids and bacteria, running agarose gels, assisting with cloning experiments, and streaking bacterial plates for single colonies; maintaining mammalian cell culture lines; assisting team members with large library productions to include de-lidding, barcoding, sorting, and sealing plates and placing racks of plates into freezer; and assisting team members with assay development and screens.
In addition to excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organization skills, a high level of attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel as well as prior experience with good laboratory practice and appropriate aseptic technique
Minimum requirements include a high school diploma and some college coursework. The candidate should have a general science background with emphasis on biology, chemistry, and other related sciences. Candidates currently pursuing or have graduated with their degree in a science-related discipline are encouraged to apply.
