Laboratory Supervisor - Aquatics
The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a laboratory supervisor to oversee services provided by the Aquatics Facility.
Responsibilities include breeding and maintenance of cavefish; culturing of invertebrate food sources, and feeding of fish; monitoring and assessing the health of fish; monitoring and maintaining water quality; cleaning and sanitizing equipment and facilities; recording data; receiving new animals and rearing of stocks; reviewing and developing standard operating procedures; training and mentoring staff; and team building.
In addition to excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively lead by example, the successful candidate will have knowledge of animal welfare guidelines and regulations; a working knowledge of fish biology, aquaculture, and genetics; experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; and AALAS certification.
Minimum requirements include a BS degree in a science related field, ideally fish biology or aquaculture; four years of experience in an aquatics facility; and the ability to lift at least fifty pounds. Prior management experience is preferred. Weekend and Holiday work will be required.
