Laboratory Technician (Media Prep)
The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Laboratory Technician in our Media Preparation core facility.
Responsibilities include preparing reagents and media (yeast, microbiological) to standard specifications including pH, osmolality and antibiotic concentrations; modifying existing protocols to meet researchers’ requirements as needed; preparing and maintaining stock solutions for the media vending system; participating in the scheduling and delivery of finished products.
Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting new media formulations in cooperation with researchers; performing quality control checks on new raw materials; setting up and maintaining equipment and instruments; utilizing the LIMS system to organize, track and bill orders; assisting in the writing and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures; ordering raw materials and maintaining inventory; and assisting with other duties as required.
The successful candidate will have mastered a broad spectrum of basic laboratory techniques in general wet bench lab work and have excellent sterile technique; the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, as well as exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum requirements include a Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Microbiology or similar life sciences, with at least one year of related experience.
