Research Technician III (LASF)

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Technician III to support Laboratory Animal Services in maintaining and monitoring animal husbandry, health, production, post-operative care and the physical surroundings within various animal care environments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: monitoring and recording daily animal health and production; cage changing; tissue collection; injections with accuracy; animal mating and maintaining breeding colonies according to team standards; handling and manipulation of various species within a controlled environment; processing equipment and supplies; maintaining barrier inventory levels; preparation of anesthesia in absence of supervisor; performing regular QA’s; annual review of SOP’s; assist with training of new staff members; assist with Transnetyx billing.

In addition to outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team oriented environment; this position requires the physical capacity to frequently lift and move 100 pounds; weekend shift coverage and some holidays; and the ability to use scientific equipment and computers.

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. The preferred candidate will have AALAS certification and/or experience in animal caretaking, time matings, and colony management.
