Research Technician (LASF)
The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Technician to support Laboratory Animal Services in maintaining and monitoring animal husbandry, health, production, and the physical surroundings within various animal care environments. The shift will be Wednesday through Sunday with occasional holiday work required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: monitoring and recording daily animal health and production; performing all methods of blood collection, tissue collection, and injections with accuracy; setting up animals for timed matings; maintaining breeding colonies according to team standards; and assisting with restraint, handling and manipulation of various species within a controlled environment. In addition to outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team oriented environment; this position requires the physical capacity to frequently lift and move 100 pounds; weekend shifts required and some holidays; and the ability to use scientific equipment and computers.
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. The preferred candidate will have AALAS certification and/or experience in animal handling, husbandry, and production.
