Research Technician (LASF)
The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Technician to support the Laboratory Animal Services.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining and monitoring animal husbandry and the physical surroundings within various animal care environments. The successful candidate will be able to follow all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas or environments, which includes personnel entry; equipment and material processing into controlled areas; monitor and record daily animal health and production; perform methods of blood collection, tissue collection, and injections with accuracy; pair animals for timed-mating projects; maintain breeding colonies according to department standards; and assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species within a controlled environment.
In addition to excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to work in a team oriented environment, the successful candidate should have the physical capacity to lift and move 50 pounds as well as sit, stand, and move from place to place, as well as the ability to use scientific equipment and computers.
This position is a Monday through Friday shift and will require some holiday shifts.
Minimum requirements include an Associate’s Degree or equivalent. The preferred candidate will have AALAS certification and/or experience in animal handling, husbandry, and production.
