The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Specialist in the Gibson Lab to drive development and implementation of protocols for genome editing, transgenesis and molecular genetics in the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis as well as several species of coral, including Acropora cervicornis and Acropora millepora.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Performing experiments using CRISPR/Cas9 and transgenesis techniques to understand cnidarian cell and developmental biology
  • Leading lab efforts on advanced molecular genetic techniques and multi-omic approaches (RNA-seq, scRNA-seq)
  • Managing husbandry needs for experiments involving Nematostella and various corals
  • Training new laboratory members in techniques and protocols
  • Assisting with maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment
  • Assisting with writing, editing and grants as needed
  • Assisting in other elements of laboratory management as requested by supervisor

Additional responsibilities may include performing laboratory safety compliance checks, maintaining chemical inventory and waste management, and organizing or analyzing data/creating databases for organizational purposes.

In addition to excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively lead by example, the successful candidate will have a highly developed level of attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.


Minimum Requirements:

  • A MS or PhD degree in Cell, Molecular, or Developmental Biology or a science related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a research laboratory with demonstrated ability of leadership and responsibility
