The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Technician to join the Halfmann Lab. The lab studies the mechanisms and consequences of prion-like protein aggregation in cells. This research has broad implications for aging, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. The chosen candidate will contribute to the lab’s goals by conducting research on protein self-assembly using genetic, biochemical and cytological approaches.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Handling and transformation of bacteria and yeast.
  • Plasmid preparation
  • Amplification of DNA by PCR
  • Human cell culture passaging and transfections
  • Protein fractionation and immunodetection
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, cell biology, biophysics, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in a molecular biology or biochemistry lab.
  • Experience with eukaryotic cell culture will be advantageous but not required.
  • Self-motivation, excellent writing, communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work closely with other team members.
  • Attention to detail, tenacity, and the ability to multitask effectively.
