Two former GSSIMR predoctoral researchers recently received prestigious fellowships. On February 8, former Conaway Lab predoc Melvin Noé González, PhD, was announced a recipient of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Individual Fellowship (IF). And on February 18, former Zanders Lab predoc María Bravo Núñez, PhD was named one of HHMI’s Hanna Gray Fellows.
For González, the grant will cover costs of the research project, as well as training, networking, and living expenses. González is currently doing his postdoctoral training with Jesper Svejstrup, PhD, in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The MSCA IF supports excellent postdoctoral fellows from Europe and beyond through international, interdisciplinary, and inter-sectoral mobility, and is an essential part of the European Research Area.
Bravo Núñez is one of 21 postdoctoral researchers selected for HHMI’s fourth cohort of Hanna Gray Fellows. The program aims to increase diversity in science by recruiting exceptional early career scientists who represent a variety of racial, ethnic, gender, ability, and other underrepresented backgrounds. Fellows receive funding for their postdoc training and may continue to receive funding during their early career years as independent faculty. In total, fellows may receive up to $1.4 million each and be supported for up to eight years. Bravo Núñez is a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Andrew Murray, PhD, at Harvard University.
