Research Technician - REQID0002210

Kostova Lab

|

Job ID: REQID0002210

The Kostova Laboratory at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research is searching for a full-time Research Technician. This is a great opportunity to work directly with a principal investigator using cutting edge technologies, and an exciting model organism (zebrafish!) to answer fundamental questions of cell biology. Ideal candidates should have a desire to learn and a strong work ethic.

The lab is investigating the fundamental question of how cells respond when their ribosomes break down, and how defects in the translation apparatus lead to complex disease. The ribosome is one the most complex and long-lived molecular machines in the cell and the presence of functional ribosomes is essential to live. Ribosome damage has been recently linked to complex human diseases, such as cancer and neurodegeneration. We use cutting-edge technology, such as CRISPR-mediated genome editing to model ribosome defects in zebrafish, and map the molecular pathways that ensure ribosome integrity.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with strong organizational skills to join our team and help explore these novel areas of biology.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Generating and maintaining transgenic zebrafish lines
  • Molecular biology techniques, such as ribosome purification, in vitro translation system, western blotting, molecular cloning, etc.
  • Organizing and maintaining lab databases (plasmids, oligos, reagents, cell lines, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. in Biology or related field
  • General experience in a research lab
  • Experience in modern molecular biology techniques
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with Zebrafish
  • Experience using modern molecular biology techniques, e.g., DNA/RNA purification, cDNA synthesis, qPCR, plasmid cloning, SDSPAGE, and Western blotting

To Apply:

Please submit the Requested Documents to careers@stowers.org or to Administration Department, Stowers Institute for Medical Research, 1000 E 50th Street, Kansas City, MO 64110.

Requested Documents:

  • Cover letter
