"The collaborative environment has been incredibly important for my research experience so far."

What attracted you to the Stowers Graduate School, and why did you choose to apply here?
I was initially attracted to Stowers because of the structure of the program. I was interested in the idea of the module courses, where classes would be completed in the first semester to then have the ability to focus on research. This, combined with the Institute’s research labs, was ultimately why I chose to apply.
What unique aspects of the Stowers Graduate School program have had the biggest impact on your research and academic development?
The biggest impact on me has been how involved the PIs and Technology Center experts are in the modules. It gives you an opportunity to learn about the labs and form connections before you dive into your own research.
How has the collaborative environment at the Institute helped shape your research experience so far?
The collaborative environment has been incredibly important for my research experience so far – not only for the discussions of what could be interesting next steps for the science, but also for professional development and understanding what I want my future to look like as a scientist.

The Stowers Graduate School Class of 2023-2024
Can you share a moment or experience that made you feel particularly proud or inspired during your time here?
One of my favorite experiences is working with the new group of graduate students. I get the opportunity to be a TA for the students during the modules, and it is great to see them excited about science and all the opportunities ahead of them as they start their time at the Stowers Institute.
What do you believe sets the Stowers Graduate School apart from other graduate programs in terms of resources, mentorship, and opportunities for growth?
The support you receive from the graduate school staff and community is tremendous. They go above and beyond to make sure that we are taken care of and that we have all the resources we need to succeed.
What advice would you give to prospective students considering the Stowers Graduate School? What makes it a great fit for future researchers?
I would advise them to reach out to current or former students. I have not met a student from the Stowers Graduate School, past or present, who was not happy to sit down and talk to those who were interested in the program or had questions.
How has the Stowers Graduate School supported your career goals, both in terms of your current research and your professional development?
Stowers has supported me and my career goals by giving me the space to focus on what is most important in my research – the science itself.
