The Stowers Institute is seeking a person with good mechanical aptitude to be part of the Technical Services team. This person will initially perform less technical tasks, i.e., defrosting freezers, replacing air filters, moving equipment as needed, and routine cleaning of scientific equipment and will provide assistance to the Biomedical Equipment Technicians as they perform maintenance and repair to a variety of laboratory equipment in a biomedical research environment. In the process, the new member will be learning skills that may eventually allow them to move into a Biomedical Equipment Technician position.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assist with equipment relocations as directed.
- Respond to submitted service tickets when appropriate.
- Switch out freezers when they need to be defrosted.
- Assist the Biomedical Equipment Technicians with maintenance and repair duties.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma required.
- Undergraduate degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or a similar field of study preferred.
- Working knowledge of electronic circuitry.
- Must be able to demonstrate good mechanical aptitude.
- Must have current driver’s license.
- Able to work independently on assigned tasks.
- Exercise good judgement.
- Must be able to use basic computer programs, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
