Our Values & Commitment
The Institute’s mission is to make a significant contribution to humanity through foundational research by expanding our understanding of the secrets of life and by improving life’s quality through innovative approaches to the causes, treatment, and prevention of diseases.
At the Stowers Institute we value teamwork, collaboration, and creativity. Our science reflects the contributions of a wide array of individuals, technologies, and approaches that together produce innovative and impactful research.
Recognizing the need for a whole-person support approach, our InBalance wellness program offers support, programming, and resources in five areas of wellbeing: career, financial, social, physical, and community, with a special focus on mental health.
Fitness & Recreation
The Stowers Fitness Center is a 24/7 on-campus facility equipped with a variety of cardio, weight and strengthening equipment and machines. Certified instructors lead a range of fitness and yoga classes. Additionally, the Institute provides an off-campus recreational facility for team sports and other recreational activities.
Stowers members are provided generous paid time off for vacation, sick leave for the employee or those in the member's household, parental leave for the birth or adoption of a child or children, and bereavement leave related to family members. We also offer members generous short-term and long-term disability leaves, with medical verification. Additionally, the Institute recognizes and offers 14 holidays and one personal holiday per year.
Retirement & Investing
The Institute provides eligible members a contribution of 15% of their eligible annual salary each year into a retirement account. Employees may also choose to participate in a 403(b) savings plan. This plan includes both traditional (pre-tax) and Roth (after-tax) options.
Tax Saving Plan
Stowers members can redirect a portion of their pay on a pre-tax basis for several qualified expenses. Our Health Flexible Spending Account allows for eligible medical, dental, or vision expenses up to an annual IRS limit. Our Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account allows for eligible expenses to an annual IRS household limit for child/dependent care, while the members and the spouse are both working.
The Institute provides term life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment coverage to eligible members. Members may also purchase additional life insurance for themselves, their spouse and their dependent children.
Through a variety of offerings, we encourage our members to advance their knowledge and skills. Whether it is through our Institute-wide Crossroads Committee, which works to broaden the interaction between students, postdoctoral researchers, and core and staff scientists, or through our Leadership and Management Training or skill- specific training seminars, the Institute encourages an ongoing learning process.
The Institute’s 10-acre, park-like campus is home to a cafe with live food stations, a salad bar and 24/7 complimentary espresso, coffee, tea, and soda. We also offer members on-site, covered complimentary parking. Additionally, we organize year-round social and knowledge-sharing events, including seminars, symposiums, receptions and other social events.
