The Stowers Institute for Medical Research is seeking a Research Technician to join the Custom Protein Resources Technology Center, which provides specialized protein biochemistry expertise, instrumentation, and services to scientists across the Institute. The successful candidate will perform hands-on molecular biology, protein expression, purification, and characterization workflows while supporting the organization, documentation, and smooth operation of the Custom Protein Resources Technology Center.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform molecular biology, protein expression, purification, and characterization workflows in support of center services.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, protocols, and documentation to support reproducible laboratory workflows and effective use of instrumentation.
- Maintain an organized laboratory, including shared spaces, equipment, reagents, samples and cold storage.
- Maintain organized digital laboratory records, including inventory and freezer management.
- Coordinate instrument maintenance, calibration, and service.
- Support and train researchers in established laboratory procedures and instrumentation use.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or a related life-science discipline. Master's-level candidates also encouraged to apply.
- Three or more years of hands-on laboratory experience preferred.
- Demonstrated organizational ability and/or experience maintaining laboratory records, inventories, or shared resources.
- Hands-on experience with molecular biology, protein expression, purification, biochemistry, or related laboratory techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with others.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience writing SOPs, protocols, or other technical documentation.
- Experience supporting shared scientific instrumentation or working in a core facility, technology center, or multi-user laboratory.
- Experience training others on laboratory procedures or instrumentation.
- Experience with laboratory inventory systems, ELNs, or LIMS.
